I found a new modeling clay !!!

I heard about this type of clay at school (SSA) talking with Jillian Palone. She works a lot with Creative paperclay and she knew about Craft Porcelain from another wonderful friend from school, Lois.
I was curious about this type of clay and finally I got some Yesterday at a craft store. The clay is white but they also sell the clay with color, this product is made by AMACO.
When I open the package and took some clay out I notice the smell and consistency of it and it reminded me about a type of clay we make in Mexico called "Migajon."
The name of the clay is Craft porcelain because when it is dry it looks like porcelain, I am sure this is not real porcelain ;o).
The clay it is not as easy to add texture or carved like the other types of clay I use. You can add color after it is dry.

Here is what I have made with this clay and I still have lots to learn.

  1. Hola, Lorena! I love the queen bird! I would like to try some air dry clay which can be easily sculpted and carved. Which brand do you recommend?

    XOXO~

  2. Thank You Mieko! ☺
I really like Craft Porcelain because it it easy to mold and sculpt but I found it very hard to textured and carved.
Creative paperclay is easy to sculpt, mold, carved and paint ;o). Between these two I will choose Creative paperclay.
It all depends in what you are looking for. Craft porcelain comes with color if you want it too.

  4. So pretty! In the Serenity ring it looks so delicate I wonder how fragile it is when done that thin.

I may have to try some of this stuff!

  6. Lorena, I noticed this clay the other day at Hobby Lobby and I decided to do some research on it due to the price. I was there to pick up a package of soft Sculpey which I absolutely have fallen in love with, including Creative Paper Clay. Unfortunately, they didn't have any so I'll pick some up at Michael's tomorrow after I drop my son off at his father's...that's where I originally found it.

I worked as a ceramist for many years and working with porcelain was just a joy! After working with all that groggy clay, porcelain felt like butter between my fingers and the results were wonderful! I love what you've created with this clay and please update your readers on how it's working out for you...I just might have to try it!

    Have a great week.

  7. Dear Lorena, as a potter, a can say about paper clay, this: is a mixure between paper (toillete paper) and porcelaine. When we do the mixure, we should not excede 30/100 of paper. The real paperclay must be cooked (biscuit) in the kiln (ceramic oven) at the porcelaine temperature. If the "paperclay" you buy is a airdry type, is only paper paste, because the real porcelaine must be cooked at 1300/1400ÂȘCelsius. If you want, i can send you the recepe and how to do it. It schrinks a lot (like porcelaine, about 30 per cent) but its hardenness and flexibility are extraordinary. After the biscuit, you can glaze it.

    Many kisses.

  9. Dear Lorena, I went to a school in Caldas da Rainha ( a very well known place for its pottery, here in Portugal) for about a year. I graduate in pottery and wheel. Then I went to live for two months to another place to do raku with a french potter. I came home and since 2008 that i am a fulltime potter. I like to do my own glazes.

In 2009, i atend to course of "Cheramics and Jewellery" for two months with an englich silversmith named Nick Tailor, where i learned copper and silversmithing.

The porcelaine paperclay, I studied in my first course, in 2007.

I already sent the heart to you. I hope you like.
    Many kisses!!
